Keller Estate in spring

March 12th, 2008 by Ana Keller

The temperature at the ranch is 63F. The vines are starting to push and we have just in time finished pruning our 86 acres of vines. It has rained a lot this winter and we feel very confortable that our ponds are filled. Every year we worry if we will have enough water to last us through the season, so this really puts my mind at ease.

At the winery, we have just bottled several wines. People think that wineries are only hectic during harvest, but spring has an abundance of activities. We bottled our 2007 Oro de Plata Chardonnay, 2007 Pinot Gris, 2007 Rose and our 2006 Syrah. So our winemaking team has been going round the clock. We now move to the cave and start working on the final blends for the Chardonnay La Cruz and the La Cruz Pinot Noir.

The 2007 vintage is exiting. This will be the first year where we bottle independantly a small lot from our El Coro Pinot Noir Vineyard. El Coro vineyard was planted in 2000 and now with 7 years of growth we felt that we had something special worthly of a special bottling. I have waited many years for this.

This is the first time I actually write a blog, I have read many but its funny change sides. Ana Keller
